Today I have had the record amount of spam on the blog to date. 294 comments in 20 hours since I last purged. While writing this post another 17 came through.
Not quite sure why this has started on blogger recently, I used to get a few a month.
I must admit some are quite amusing, some useful advice if I was particularly asking for it and some bizarre.
I have been getting quite an ego boost with some anonymous posters comments
You are so cool! I do not suppose I've read through a single thing like this before. So good to find someone with some genuine thoughts on this subject. Really.. thank you for starting this up. This site is something that's
needed on the internet, someone with a little originality!

I must say I could get used to the praise.
Todays distasteful one
Urine and faeces are the body's way of getting rid of infection....
I won't put you off your cuppa by typing the rest.
The cheekiest has to be
Are you having problems with spam, need a solution, join my site....
The site title is for dog shampoo!!!
So as much as I am entertained by some, I have to stop it, sadly I am stopping anonymous posts for now.
I really hate captcha, I know people hate it as well, so I am not going to add yet.
I am sad as a few people comment anon and enter the giveaways that way, but I have not the hours to 'fritter' away (get it?) on spam!!!
I feel your pain - I am so fed up with it!!
ReplyDeleteIt seem to have worked banning anon comments. Sad though as a few good comments are added by people not wanting to leave details.
Deletesame here and I've done exactly the same thing - so nice to not have them filling up my inbox any more !
ReplyDeleteYes just checked and not a one. Hopefully it will stay that way.
DeleteOh my yes YES YES! Spam and chips my end - and not in the fun edible way... I once went through a spate of spam talking about weather vanes and I sat there thinking WHY ME?!
ReplyDeleteYes indeedy it would be great if it was chips and spam fritters. I have had a spate of really gruesome ones talking about yeast infections and other unmentionables!!
DeleteIt seems to have got totally out of control over the last week doesn't it? Blogger really needs to address the issue. Apparently there are sites out there that have lists of blog posts for spammers to use, which is why they seem to come in clusters on certain posts. Just looking at traffice sources for my blog, I can see which site is the worst culprit - so why can't Blogger see the same thing and block traffic from it?
ReplyDeleteIt is crazy, but I do not feel so alone,it seems we are all suffering. I am off to look where mine comes from now.
DeleteThat made me LOL! Oh I feel for you, I am all for Captcha - even if it takes a few extra seconds I think it saves so much in the case of SPAM. I hate Spam - yuck, my mother used to give it to us for dinner at least 3 times a week - at least the dog enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteit amazes me that people post on blogs or facebook walls to advertise total rubbish and think ppl are interested i now click and report the posts on company's facebook accounts that post with irrelevent self advertising like click here to buy magical weightlose pills that help you loose 10 stone in 2 months :)
ReplyDeletespam is very annoying, almost as bad as the non-stop PPI claims phone calls I keep getting grrrr
ReplyDeleteWhen I had a blog this used to annoy me sooo much. Particularly as it was a very little blog and most of my comments were spam. Sigh. Some of them are entertaining to be fair. But as you say most aren't.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should pay more attention and read what they write some sound quite entertaining :) x
ReplyDeleteI don't mind Captcha tbh, but sometimes they are totally illegible.
ReplyDeleteIt's not just blogs either. Email and forums too.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind captcha. Does take a few seconds more than pressing the return button but it may be the only way.
ReplyDeleteHope you're not still getting all that spam.
ReplyDeleteNot since I turned off anonymous comments, its one or two a month now, thank goodness
DeleteI find that some topics are getting much more spam than others.
ReplyDeleteEvery post which I tag "eBay" will have 1000% more spam than "Pets" or a "cooking" one
I am glad you have sorted it out and you have not had to resort to the dreaded captcha.
