Now for Something Completely Different

Well my life has, shall we say been turned on its head in the last 3 weeks. I was minding my own  business, family, blog and I received a call that in seconds changed everything.

It was my Mum, with the news she is very ill. I will be taking over the care role for my Granny, who I have missed so much when she went off to live with my Mum.

Its a huge change, the whole family, my Uncle and Aunt ( who have been fantastic)  are all up for this, we are moving into my Granny's house, she will love being back, but it needs a heap of work.

A wet room is being built, her room decorated, a new cosy fire, the hard work to transform  the old room, overseen and designed by my lovely Aunt in law, who is not like a Aunt in age, she and I are a few years apart. She  has amazed me with her continued physical help and now emotional support. She has organised a chimney sweep to unblock chimney. We are spending every day together shopping, going to the local tip, that is eye raising!

This time two weeks ago, I had the odd meet with her and my Uncle, now we are joined together in a quest to make it alright for their Mum, my Granny.

A lot of people are helping (over and above normal working hours) to get a wet room built and house livable for us. A rat ran in the back door and  around the kitchen on Wednesday, think we are going to be battling his family for the garden!

Cannot get through anymore!

My Uncle disappearing, not sure if he is out yet! There is a greenhouse and shed way down the bottom, I still have not seen the greenhouse, this is the top third where I am taking the shot.

The garden is like the Secret garden, nature has claimed it in under three years.see my Silent Sunday for another view of the garden.

I am going to try to capture my days spent getting it ready, then I have to pack my whole life up and move there too, date for this is September 1st!

Mind blowing if I stop to think!

  1. Wow Jo. You know I think you are absolutely amazing for what you are doing ... and these photos have just made me realised the scale of what you are taking on. Your Granny is a lucky lady to have you in her life. I look forward to seeing how everything progresses. Remember to take care of yourself too. xx

    1. Hehe its been at times a huge mountain of emotions, some of them great feeling cared for and secure has been on top. Its also been a great time of finding family members who were not originally close and just how much I had missed out on.
Eating cheese rolls in the dust and plaster and chatting about random stuff has been so enjoyable. Friend coming round and taking over me making dinner, a beer with a neighbour when they saw the dishevelled scarecrow emerge from a car, all have made me count my blessings!

  3. Well done you, a lot of people wouldn't do this, they would have probably just put her in a home.
Family is very important & we wouldn't be here without the previous generation.
My Mother fell last week luckily she was on the middle landing of her stairs not on them as such & the lady who comes in to cleans Mothers windows & stairs just happen to arrive a couple of seconds after it happened( talk about small mercies!) so she was able to see to her immediately.
She's not unable to get up her stairs so is sleeping in her front room, sadly I can't look after her as I had an asthma crisis a week ago & under strict instructions to rest & get the gooey stuff out of my lungs with physio (the one where they hit you on your back!! ) or I won't be able to go to my sons wedding on the 24th.
I've four brothers but they just expect me to be able to do it all, but I've got her some carer's coming in four times aday until I'm able to go over & sort her out myself.
Hoping your family are all up & about in fine fettle soon hunny. x

  4. Ooh you are so lovely, I am getting mixed reactions to my news, from I'm crazy, taking on too much, giving up my life, etc, etc, however I am choosing and making a decision based on love, so I know that for some it may not seem right but love is always right!
Its a worry when you are ill and your Mum has had a fall, agree thank goodness somebody arrived, as to being ill with my Granny ill too, been there myself. You then have to make hard choices, but your health short term will affect long term. So very important you behave and stay put, need to know all about the wedding too so you have to be there. Hope you recover speedily Jaycee x

  7. Big task that garden! It'll be lovely when it's all cleared though and sure Granny will appreciate seeing back in it's full glory.
I really admire what you're doing for your family. Great that everyone is pulling together in your extended family.
